Preparing for laser therapy

What can you do yourself?

Laser therapy and light therapy both work on the principle that, due to their darker color, hairs or blood vessels absorb more light than the surrounding skin. An experienced skin therapist can set the equipment in such a way that the subject to be removed does heat up in the skin, but not the skin itself. We use various additional aids, such as special color filters and cooling gel. It is important to prepare well for laser therapy.

In general, when preparing for laser therapy, the paler you are, the better it is. After all, there is more contrast between your skin and the hairs or veins. So stay out of the sun for at least six weeks before the treatment. If you do have to go outside, cover the skin to be treated with clothing or sunblock factor 30. Of course you do not use a self-tanning cream during that time. Remove any make-up before the treatment. We also strongly recommend avoiding direct sunlight for a few weeks after the treatment. Too much sunlight is not good for your skin, which is also extra sensitive.

How does the treatment feel?

Laser treatment can be a bit painful. We work with short pulses of light, which feel as if someone is shooting a rubber band against your skin. After the treatment, your skin will feel warm or burning. There are no serious side effects. If you notice that blisters or scabs are developing, always come by to show the skin therapist. An important advantage of U-Clinic is that your skin therapy is monitored and supervised by experienced in-house dermatologists. They are two doors away, so they can always come and have a look at your skin if necessary.
