Treating varicose veins

Do you suffer from heavy legs and painfully swollen veins? Or do you especially struggle with the aesthetic side of unsightly varicose veins? We can resolve your complaints. The treatment of varicose veins can now be done on an outpatient basis, and apart from a few injections is very comfortable.

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins or varicose veins are swellings caused by certain valves in the veins no longer working properly. As a result, the blood can ‘get stuck’ in the vein, which stretches further and further. A bubble forms. Some varicose veins are inside the leg, but most of the time you can clearly see the varicose veins.
Varicose veins can be unsightly (cosmetic) and/or cause all kinds of complaints such as: tired, restless legs, cramps or swollen ankles.

In all cases, varicose veins are a danger to your health, because the blood flow stagnates on the spot. This can cause blood clots that can cause serious damage elsewhere in your body (lungs, brains).

Diagnosis by duplex examination

Varicose veins are often easy to spot. But because there are different types, it is important to do a thorough research first to find out which treatment is needed. Immediately on your first visit to U-Clinic, the doctor will examine your veins with a special image and sound scanner (duplex). This takes about 10 minutes and is completely painless. Immediately afterwards, the doctor will draw up a treatment plan with you.

Possible treatments for varicose veins

Depending on the nature of the varicose veins, the doctor can recommend different treatments. All these treatments are – except for a few anesthetic injections – virtually painless. Although your legs may be a bit sensitive for a few days.

    Fees for varicose vein treatments

The first consultation at U-Clinic and the duplex examination are always reimbursed, provided you bring a referral letter from your GP. However, you must take into account a deductible.

The reimbursement for the treatment of varicose veins depends on the nature of your complaints. They must be serious enough to be eligible for reimbursement. That goes according to a certain classification. Your attending surgeon, who also personally provides the first consultation and duplex examination at U-Clinic, can usually tell you immediately on the spot whether you are eligible for reimbursement. Here, too, you must take your own risk into account.

Read more about it on our ‘Costs and fees’ page .

For questions you can always contact us. We are happy to explain everything about your complaints, about the treatment of varicose veins and about your chance of being reimbursed.
